Voor de gemeente Den Bosch heeft het vasthouden van regenwater op de plek waar het valt de absolute voorkeur. Niet alleen omdat hiermee verdroging van het stedelijk gebied wordt tegengaan, maar ook omdat het een positief effect op hittestress heeft.
Er is bewust niet gekozen voor infiltratiekratten. Deze slibben dicht en verliezen mettertijd hun functie. Met slechts ontgraving is hetzelfde resultaat te bereiken, maar dan duurzamer, goedkoper en beter te onderhouden. Den Bosch heeft ook een sterke voorkeur voor de bovengrondse afvoer van hemelwater naar de wadi, met name in verband met foutieve aansluitingen, die zich ondergronds kunnen voordoen. De wadibanden vervullen daarom een eenvoudige, maar essentiële rol.
